# Work with pages in tabs

> Keep several Tilts, accounts, and other pages open in tabs beside the chat in Tilt for Mac.

In [Tilt for Mac](https://docs.tilt.now/tilt-agent/tilt-for-mac.md), every page you open gets a tab in the title bar, beside the chat. One tab shows at a time, and each tab keeps its own back and forward history. Tilt Agent sees the tab on screen and knows which others are open, so you can compare them without repeating their names.

Library and two Tilts open in tabs, with the chat beside the Tilt on screen.

## Open pages in tabs

Open a page as you would on the web: from a card in a chat, the sidebar, a pin, or a link. The page opens in a new tab at the right end of the strip. If that page already has a tab, Tilt shows that tab.

A Tilt's views, **Overview**, **Rules**, **Portfolio**, **News**, and **History**, share one tab. Links inside a page open in the same tab; ⌘-click a link to open it in a new tab.

**Back** and **Forward** (⌘\[ and ⌘]) move through the tab on screen.

Each tab is named after what its page shows, such as the Tilt's name, or after the page itself, such as **Library** or **Alerts**. The menu at the end of the strip lists every open page and your recently closed ones. It shows as **+N** when some tabs don't fit in the title bar, and as a down arrow when they all fit and you have closed a page.

## Close and reopen tabs

| To | Do this |
| - | - |
| Close the tab on screen | Select its close button, or press ⌘W |
| Close other tabs | Right-click a tab and select **Close Other Pages** or **Close Pages to the Right** |
| Close every tab | Select **Close All Pages** in the menu at the end of the strip, or search the command menu (⌘K) for **Close all pages** |
| Reopen a closed tab | Press ⌘⇧T, or pick it under **Recently closed** in the menu at the end of the strip |

A page with unsaved changes asks before it closes. With no tabs open, the window shows the chat.

## Choose how much room the chat gets

The buttons at the right of the title bar change the layout:

| Button | Shortcut | Result |
| - | - | - |
| **Hide chat** | ⌘B | The page fills the window. Select **Show chat** to bring the chat back. |
| **Hide pages** | ⌥⌘B | The chat fills the window. Your tabs wait behind a count in the title bar. Shown while the chat is open. |

Select the count to show your pages again, or hover over it to pick a tab from **Open pages**. Opening any page also shows them.

## Ask about your tabs

**Looking at** above the message input names the page in the tab on screen. When other tabs are open, **+N open tabs** beside it lists them under **Also open**; pick one to switch to it.

![Chat message input showing Looking at Rate-sensitive housing equities and +1 open tab above Ask Tilt](https://mintcdn.com/tilt/3FFJMr0s0_XQx6UT/images/tilt-agent/page-tabs-composer.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3FFJMr0s0_XQx6UT\&q=85\&s=402d586e135dad9c85112f3faa908494)

Looking at names the tab on screen; +1 open tab lists the other one.

Tilt Agent receives the page on screen and the names of the objects in your other tabs with each message. Ask about them together:

> Compare this Tilt with the one in my other tab.

Pages that show no single object, such as **Library** or **Alerts**, are not included. While your pages are hidden, Tilt Agent sees no page and no open tabs.

See [Ask about the page](https://docs.tilt.now/tilt-agent/ask-about-page.md) for how **Looking at** works.

## Your tabs after a restart

Tilt reopens your tabs in order, with the same tab on screen, when you sign in again with the same account. Each tab loads when you first show it. Tabs from an organization you no longer have open stay closed. Signing in with a different account starts with no tabs.
