# Account-template reference

> Look up supported settings, copy semantics, permissions, and save behavior.

## Template contents

| Family | Reusable contents |
| - | - |
| Model and sleeves | Shared model assignment and applicable sleeve implementation or customization choices. |
| Cash | Cash buffers and reserve amounts. |
| Tax | Tax rates, tax-loss harvesting settings, and account optimizer tax budgets or gain targets. |
| Trading and optimization | Trading controls, turnover limits, risk limits, and optimization settings. |
| Restrictions and exposures | Restrictions, exposure bounds, substitutions, and exemptions with required reasons. |
| Conditional rules and monitoring | Account-scoped rules and monitoring-policy configuration. |

Templates exclude account identity, registration, holdings, balances, and realized history. Shared annual capital-gains budgets belong to the client or household and remain separate from account optimizer tax settings.

Defining or applying a template does not grant trading authority, activate management, place trades, or start scheduled work.

## Field instructions

| Instruction | Effect when selected for application |
| - | - |
| Not included | Leave the account setting untouched. |
| Set a value | Replace the account's saved value. |
| Reset account override | Clear the account-specific value using that setting's reset behavior, including model or firm inheritance where applicable. |
| Remove from template | Omit the field from future applications; preserve existing account values and past records. |

Omission and reset are distinct instructions. Zero, false, and empty selections remain deliberate values where supported.

Copying a list replaces the account-level list; the review shows additions and removals. Inherited model and firm restrictions, resolution rules, and required exemption reasons still apply.

## Models and saved values

| Case | Result |
| - | - |
| Included model assignment | Reference the shared model without duplicating its allocation. Later model edits retain normal shared-model behavior. |
| Explicit **No model**, where supported | Use the account's no-model behavior. Omitting the setting leaves its assignment untouched. |
| Template value matches saved configuration | Show **Unchanged**, outside selectable changes. |
| Template value matches an inherited effective value | Show a configuration change if copying writes an explicit account override. |

When creating a template from an account, Tilt Agent copies requested effective scalar values and preserves shared model references. The source account has no ongoing connection to the template.

For monitoring, Tilt Agent copies only an explicit account policy, preserving inherited layers. A source with no explicit policy requires a chosen policy or reset instruction. Conditional rules can fall through to different inherited policies at the destination, so the effective monitoring outcome can differ.

## Selection and validation

| Situation | Behavior |
| - | - |
| Open an application review | Check all proposed changes by default. |
| Uncheck a setting | Preserve its current configuration. |
| No checked changes for an account | Make no changes to that account. |
| Repeat an application | Compare current template instructions with current account settings. Selected copies can overwrite later account edits. |
| Selected model conflicts with a retained sleeve setting | Require a compatible selection; preserve unchecked settings. |
| Selected account configuration is invalid | Save none of the selected batch. |
| Relevant state changes during review | Require renewed review of changed lines; preserve selections for identical changes. |

Application uses saved template definitions, excluding queued edits. Tilt Agent supports several accounts with a separate setting selection for each. Tilt saves all selected account changes together or saves none; this guarantee covers Tilt configuration, not custodian operations.

The Firm queue can partially succeed: successful saves leave the queue and failed changes remain. Saving definitions leaves accounts unchanged. See [Firm queue controls](https://docs.tilt.now/advisor/review-the-firm.md#setup).

## Template lifecycle

| Action or state | Effect |
| - | - |
| Edit a template | Change future applications; preserve existing account settings. |
| Archive a template | Prevent new applications; preserve account settings and past records. |
| Intended account type mismatch | Warn without changing registration or blocking application. Intended types create no automatic assignment rule for new accounts. |
| Saved definition changes during editing | Block the stale draft from overwriting it. **Discard edits and reload saved templates** clears template drafts and reloads saved definitions. |

## Permissions and records

| Action | Required permission |
| - | - |
| Create, edit, or archive a definition | Firm owner or editor. |
| Apply a saved template | Account-edit permission and access to the account. |

The app and Tilt Agent enforce the same permissions.

| Record | Preserved information |
| - | - |
| Definition creation, edit, or archival | Actor, time, action, and definition changes, including previous contents. |
| Application | Template identity and contents used, actor, time, account selection, selected before/after changes, and each account's result. |

Records survive later template edits and archival.
