# Define and apply an account template

> Save reusable settings in Firm Setup, then review and apply them to an account.

Firm owners and editors can create, edit, or archive templates. Applying a saved template requires account-edit permission and access to the account.

## 1. Create and save a template

1. Open **Firm > Setup > Account templates** and select **Create template**.
2. Name the template and describe its intended use. Optional intended account types guide selection; they do not assign the template to future accounts.
3. Use **Add setting** to include the settings to copy. For a setting that should return to inheritance, choose **Reset account override**.
4. Select **Add to queue**, review the definition in **Queued changes**, then select **Apply firm changes** to save it. Saving the definition leaves accounts unchanged.

Leave out settings you do not want to copy. **Remove from template** omits a setting from future applications without clearing account values. See [Firm queue controls](https://docs.tilt.now/advisor/review-the-firm.md#setup) to undo or discard queued changes.

## 2. Review and apply it to an account

1. From any account tab, open the **…** menu in the account header and choose **Apply account template…**. Apply or discard queued **Setup** changes first, and wait for any save to finish.
2. Find the saved template, select **Apply to this account**, check the account name, and select **Review changes**. Queued definition edits are excluded.
3. Review the before/after lines. Actual changes start checked; matching saved settings appear as **Unchanged**. Uncheck changes you do not want to apply.
4. Inspect list additions and removals and any changes to inheritance. Copying a value that matches an inherited value can still write an explicit account override.
5. Resolve incompatible selections, such as a model change that conflicts with a retained sleeve setting. If relevant settings changed during review, refresh and review them again.
6. Select **Apply** to save the checked changes. Applying a template does not place trades.

## 3. Edit or archive a template

Return to **Firm > Setup > Account templates**. Select **Edit**, change the settings, and select **Update queued template**. To retire a template, select **Archive** instead. Review **Queued changes** and select **Apply firm changes**.

Existing account settings stay unchanged. **Show archived** includes retired templates in the list; past application records remain available.

## Apply with Tilt Agent

Ask for a review using your saved template and account names:

> Prepare IRA standard for Jordan Lee Roth IRA. Keep its cash buffer unchanged. Show me the changes before applying.

Review the proposed changes before authorizing them. Tilt Agent can also prepare applications for several named accounts, with a separate setting selection for each.

See the [reference](https://docs.tilt.now/advisor/account-templates/reference.md) for supported settings, reset behavior, and validation.
