# Read an account's Overview

> What each section of a client account's Overview shows and where its numbers come from.

An account opens on its **Overview**: one page with how the account has performed, where it stands against its model, its tax position, its recent activity, and its mix. Nothing on the page changes the account, except the capital gains budget and the realized gains you enter there.

To open it, click **Clients**, open the client, and select the account by name.

| Section | What it shows | Where the numbers come from |
| - | - | - |
| **Performance** | The account's return over a period, next to its model and measurement benchmark. | Tilt's daily values for the account. [Account performance](https://docs.tilt.now/advisor/account-performance.md) covers this section. |
| **Against** *model name* | Total drift, the largest sleeve drift, off-model weight, sleeves over a limit, and each sleeve's drift and tracking error. | The latest nightly drift check. |
| **Tax** | Unrealized short-term and long-term gain, and the number of lots inside a wash-sale window. | The account's tax lots at the latest close, the same figures as the **Holdings** tab. |
| **Realized gains this year** | Realized gains against the client's capital gains budget. | Amounts your firm enters. |
| **Recent transactions** | The latest transactions, newest first. | The linked brokerage account. |
| **Allocation by asset class** | The account's weight in each asset class, now and in its target. | The latest nightly drift check. |
| **Exposures** | Sector, size and style, next to the model's. | The holdings saved by the latest nightly drift check. |

## Drift against the model

The section is titled **Against** and the model's name. It opens with a sentence on the account's status and when it was checked. When the account needs attention, an **Open Optimization** button opens the account's **Optimization** tab.

| Tile | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Total drift** | How far the account's holdings are from the model's targets. The caption shows the limit and the warning level. |
| **Largest sleeve drift** | The top-level sleeve furthest from its target, named in the caption. |
| **Off-model weight** | The share of the account in holdings the model doesn't include. These count toward total drift, not toward any sleeve's tracking error. |
| **Sleeves over a limit** | How many sleeves are past their drift limit, out of the model's sleeves, and how many are past a warning. |

The table below the tiles lists each sleeve with its **Target**, **Current** weight, **Drift**, and, when the account's tracking-error check is on, its **Tracking error** against the sleeve's benchmark and that limit. Sleeves inside a composite, and Tilts set on a sleeve, have their own rows. Drift limits apply only to the model's top-level sleeves. [Models and benchmarks](https://docs.tilt.now/advisor/models-and-benchmarks.md#how-a-tilt-changes-a-sleeve) explains how those rows are built.

![Against Growth Portfolio section with tiles for Total drift 9.31% (limit 6.00%, warns at 3.00%), Largest sleeve drift 5.73% in US Equities, Off-model weight 0.65% in 1 holding, and Sleeves over a limit 1 of 8 sleeves. Below, a table of eight sleeves and Excess cash with target, current, drift, drift status, tracking error, limit and tracking-error status; US Equities shows Over limit. A list at the bottom gives the nightly drift check, holdings and prices dates of Oct 23, a sleeve drift limit of 5.00%, and limits from the organization's settings.](https://mintcdn.com/tilt/ZB2VP0uKN77kIvaA/images/advisor/account-overview-drift.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ZB2VP0uKN77kIvaA\&q=85\&s=a977274932e86ff12d2e320149570fb6)

Jordan Lee's Roth IRA in Demo Organization against its model, Growth Portfolio. US Equities is over its sleeve drift limit.

The list under the table gives the date of the check, the dates of the holdings and prices it used, and where the limits come from.

The check runs nightly, so a change to the model or the account shows up after the next check. If you move the account to another model, the section keeps the old model's name until then and says so.

## Realized gains and the capital gains budget

A capital gains budget is the net capital gains a client's accounts may realize in a year. Click **Set budget** to set it on the client's household, which covers every member without a budget of their own, or on the client alone. Tax-sheltered accounts don't count toward it.

The tiles show the **Budget**, the **Realized** total so far this year, and what's **Remaining**. A line below lists the accounts that count toward the budget.

![Realized gains this year section with a Within budget badge and the text \$31,000 of the \$50,000 budget for 2026 is left, buttons for Set budget, Add realized gains and Confirm records, and tiles for Budget \$50,000 set on this client, Realized \$19,000 (short-term \$4,200, long-term \$14,800) and Remaining \$31,000. Below, Counts toward it: Taylor Morgan Individual Taxable, then Realized in this account \$19,000, Opening amount for 2026 Entered, and Records complete through Oct 23.](https://mintcdn.com/tilt/ZB2VP0uKN77kIvaA/images/advisor/account-overview-realized-gains.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ZB2VP0uKN77kIvaA\&q=85\&s=2aa5319107930e563bb379824e980798)

Taylor Morgan's Individual Taxable account in Demo Organization, with a \$50,000 budget set on the client.

Tilt doesn't read realized gains from custodian activity. Your firm enters them for each account:

1. Click **Add realized gains**. The account's first entry for the year is its opening amount: the net short-term and long-term gains it realized from January 1 through a date you choose. Later entries add the gains realized on a date. Enter a loss as a negative amount, and note where the figures came from, such as a custodian report.
2. Click **Confirm records** and enter the date the account's records are complete through, with a note on how you checked.

Until every counted account has an opening amount and a current confirmation, **Realized** and **Remaining** read **Unknown** and the section says what's missing. They never show \$0 in place of a missing figure. Under the tiles, the open account shows its own realized amount, whether its opening amount is entered, and the date its records are complete through.

## Recent transactions

The table lists each transaction's date, type, ticker, quantity, price and amount, as the account's brokerage sent them. A line underneath names the brokerage and when Tilt last read it. When there are no rows, a sentence says why: the account isn't linked to a brokerage account, the brokerage doesn't send transaction history, or Tilt hasn't read it yet.

## Allocation by asset class

The table lists each asset class's **Target**, **Current** weight, and the **Difference** between them. The target is the portfolio the latest nightly drift check proposed for the account, which follows the model and the account's own settings. If that proposal didn't save, the section has no target to compare with.

A fund that holds more than one asset class counts toward each. **Cash** includes cash balances and holdings classified as cash. **Unclassified** includes funds and other holdings Tilt has no asset-class data for, and assets Tilt can't trade. A stock without asset-class data counts as equity.

## Ask Tilt Agent

Open **Chat** and name the account, for example:

> Why is Maya Patel's Revocable Trust over its drift limit, and which sleeves are furthest from target?
